Wow, we’re finally here! The day started off with a very moving opening ceremony. All of the riders and hikers gathered together, celebrating both being in Israel and the mission before them. Then the hikers took off to Rosh Hanikra!
After learning about the history of the place, especially its part in the creation of Eretz Yisrael, we hiked along the shore of the Mediterranean and had lunch at the foot of a crusader castle.
The hikers divided into two groups. One group chose to go on a walking tour of Akko. My husband and I selected the option to hike Nachal Yechiam. It was a beautiful descent into a dry river bed, arriving at a small village where we met the bus.
Day 1 was exhilarating! Yes, it was great to be challenged, but more important, we are getting to know people whom we hope will become life-long friends. I cannot wait for Day 2. Bring it on!!
